Winter Season - Shakespeare Houses

Visit the five historic houses in our near Stratford upon Avon connected with William Shakespeare and his family. Each house has its own character and each offers a different insight to the world in which the famous playwright and poet was born, lived and died.

VENUES: Shakespeare's Birthplace, Anne Hathaway's Cottage

DETAILS: From 20 Oct, Mon - Sat, 9.30am, Sun 10.00am, Last Entry 4.00pm
The Houses are open daily all year round, except 23,24,25,26, December.
The Houses are closed and the car and coach parks locked 30 minutes after the last entry times.

Wed 25 Mar to Thu 26 Mar, Shakespeare's Birthday Celebrations

This event is held each year on the nearest weekend to Shakespeare's birthday. A colourful procession proceeds through the town. There is entertainment on the Waterside as Stratford celebrates the birthday of its most famous son.

Fri 10 Apr to Tue 14 Apr, The King's Progress

Come to Warwick Castle and see the Earl and his household prepare for the visit of Richard III. Join in their celebrations and see the Knights in combat and watch the birds of prey swoop and fly above the castle ramparts.

Sat 9 May, 10am to 5pm - A George Eliot Day

A one day conference with three papers concentrating on two of George Eliot's most popular novels - The Mill on the Floss and Adam Bede.

The speakers will be Vivienne Wood teacher of English at Kings Edward Sixth Form College, Nuneaton, Dr Joanne Shattock of Leicester University and Dr Beryl Gray, of Birbeck College, London. The programme concludes with a slide show of places associated with both novels.

Sat 9 May, 7.30pm - George Eliot - A Woman of Some Importance

A Documentary Drama devised by Robin Allan.

The story of George Eliot's remarkable life. Apart from linking narrative and dialogue, it is told through letters, contempaorary accounts and extracts from the novels, with slides and music to set the scene.
Presented by four actors in costume as it was at the 1997 Buxton Festival.
